The day begins with breakfast and a whole lot of dish washing. It's interesting the things people can bond over!
Team 3 is beginning to get into their groove. After the morning TAG time (Time Alone with God), we set off for our VBS sites.
Our first site is something that resembles a playground. Although it is our second day, we have already earned affinities from the different children. Randall is curious and energetic, where as Reyna is shy and sweet. Each bringing family members to enjoy time with us.
Second stop, a large patch of dirt. To look around the area is depressing with patchwork homes and way too many stray dogs. The children, however, bring so much energy and life. Hungry for whatever attention we can give them, they come. Josi, Alonso, Arlene and all the rest are such beautiful children. Games, crafts and storytime help them and their parents get through the time.
The theme for the day came from 1 Corinthians 12: 4-27. We used puppets to tell the children that they all have special gifts. Each of them have something they can offer. And when they work together they can create beautiful music.
I usually work in music ministry, but I have found in this experience that I can offer insight into the challenges of the ticos that most may not consider. I guess it is a sort of grounding.
This experience has also grounded me even more and I am truly blessed to be here.
