I currently am struggling with how I can serve God. I question how, when, and where I should serve. How much do I “need” to serve to be a good Christian? These problems were running through my head leading up to our mission at Pura Vida. I knew that our group would be serving God by running a Vacation Bible School at various sites, but while we were there, my mind opened up and I thought of exactly what we were doing. A bunch of people from Southeastern Pennsylvania flew down to a small city in Costa Rica to serve the children and show them how God can be a leading figure in their life. This sounds much different than traveling somewhere to build a house, or repair a park. This opened my eyes to a new type of service, one where we share time growing in God’s love through songs, games, and stories. While I still struggle with serving God, the mission trip to Costa Rica has pushed me towards meeting people, sharing stories of God, and growing together. My time in Costa Rica challenged me to go and make disciples. While I feel called to serve God, I often picture the tangible ways to help, such as clean up a neighborhood, or paint a house. Those tangibles are a great way to love your neighbor, but not the only way. Sharing stories, and bonding with others is a powerful way to grow your faith, as well as others. Talking about my faith is hard, let alone in another language. This challenge pushed me to opening up and growing in my faith with the children of San Ramón. How would you describe your experiences, God encounters and memories of this trip? Life changing. It was amazing to see how bonding with kids over Tic-Tac-Toe, or skits can show them God. You could see the kids excitement, and them thinking about how God is in their life. You can’t describe how you felt during VBS though; you can only experience it. |
